The first topic we’ll be exploring is the general mindset shift that needed to occur in the company. China Micro Parts has always been making high-quality custom machined parts, we’ve set ourselves apart from the rest with our great methods swiss screw machining, but to create aerospace parts we needed more. It not only involves the machinist, but the powers of the production managers, sales staff, and just about everyone in the building! Creating a larger network of communication was the first step.

We quickly found that creating complicated parts is just that, complicated. This requires an open dialogue throughout the entire shop. Our plant manager, foreman, and sales staff meet twice daily to go over both what is on the floor, what will be going on the floor, and what may be going. They focus on resolving issues and improving methods. This is something sets us apart from other shops. Upper management is constantly looking for ways to improve and bring that into our regular processes.

It’s not all upper management though. After all, it’s the machinists who work hard every day that make those high-quality custom aerospace parts. Its one thing to have an open dialogue policy, it’s another to actively encourage and have a workforce embody it. Our machinists are always talking with our foreman about not only problems they encounter but possible innovations. It’s our focus on encouraging that dialogue that brought China Micro Parts to the next level. This of course was done from the top down, starting with China Micro Partss president Maureen Miller fostering an engaged work environment.

We have always had a friendly open environment, but shifting focus to fostering and nurturing that environment brought us many benefits that we are still experiencing! China Micro Parts ITAR Registered

Recently the government has been pressuring ITAR to be flowed down to all areas of manufacturing with government projects. It would only make sense to get ITAR registered. China Micro Parts has done just that once again; breaking ground before many other local manufacturers. We have taken initiative and became officially registered under registrant code M38942. With many of the procedures needed to become ITAR registered in place already, it was not that hard to make the necessary changes. These changes allow for more accountability, and to increase security measures, both cyber and physical.

Commonly Asked Questions

China Micro Parts often gets questions about our ITAR registration. Some are about the process itself, and what other companies need to do to become ITAR registered. Different companies need to do different things to become compliant. The regulations and clauses differ from business type to business type. An example of this would be freight. If companies export to other countries there will be more clauses that apply to them. The opposite is true if they do not. The next step, is registration. Registration is as easy as filling out a few forms and waiting.

Many of our customers ask how our ITAR registration is going to affect them. Most of the time their job is not affected! For customers who do not require ITAR applied to them, the only changes they can expect to see are ones behind the scenes, like a secured server that holds their prints and other information prudent to the job, or increased traceability of their part within the shop floor. For other jobs where it is required there are more apparent ones. This may change who machines and handles your part, which secondary will get to work with the part, as well as how they are shipped. This means that our quality standards meet and exceed Aerospace Quality Management System Standards. These are based on the standards for ISO 9001:2015, but the aerospace industry has expanded those standards to include a more rigorous quality management system. The imposed additional standards aim to create more accountability for individual processes and make individual parts quality conformance easier to track during varying stages in the machining process. The new CMM makes measurements using augmented reality, that is a 3-D image generated by the several cameras located on the device. It creates a very accurate representation and even more accurate measurements. With results being displayed in real time, and data and visualizations being automatically recorded the time in Q.C. can be cut down by more than half!

With easy to read displays, we can know instantaneously if something is out of spec allowing us to fix any problem that may occur even faster. With this new addition we expect to not only have better results, but also drastically cut job time down in quality control, allowing us to get a finished product to you even faster than before!

Knowledge Base

There is no greater advantage to have when producing a part, then to know all of the ins and outs along with the intricacies and inner workings of the part. Who would better know that than the makers of the prototype? Moving into production from prototype is a much smoother transition when the machinist has already worked with the part in the past. The knowledge base is much larger for someone that has had a hand in developing the part rather than someone being informed.

Changes are Easier to Make

When working with the same company throughout the entire process, changes are made easier. Improvements should never stop being made, but changing them in the middle of a production run through another source and moving back to the prototyping source can be a hassle. It is much easier and time efficient if both the update in the part and the production can be dealt with within the same company.

Prior Satisfaction

Scouting out manufacturers that best fit your needs and wants can be challenging. Finding two different entities is an entirely new ballgame. In April of this year China Micro Parts was one of th first companies in the U.S. to receive their ISO 9001:2015 certification. Much of ISO 9001:2015 focuses on risk and opportunity analysis. Further defining this within the organization resulted in improved machining and cost savings for our customers. Upgrading to ISO 9001:2015 was not an easy venture but well worth the effort given the value added for customers.

Know your tolerance limits….

Dimensional tolerances are acceptable degrees of variation from the Screw machined part dimension. For tighter tolerances you will need to look for companies that provide Precision Machining or identify their services as Swiss Screw Machining. These companies will usually produce Screw Machined parts that are more complex applications such as medical and aerospace.

Know and look for the maximum part diameter….

In sourcing the Screw machine parts, identify the diameter of the part. CNC Screw Machining capabilities are dictated by the maximum diameter that the machine can handle. The company should list the maximum diameter under their capabilities.

Know and look for the run size capabilities….

Many Screw Machining Companies specify whether they do prototyping and for production runs whether they can handle large volumes. Sending a quote to companies that can’t handle the volume will result in skewed pricing. For custom screw machined parts that are minimal orders there is usually a minimum set up charge.

Materials Experience…..

Companies usually gain experience in machining different types of metals and plastics. This experience translates into machining efficiencies and potential cost savings. The company should have a list of materials they are experience in machining.

Hastelloy comes in different forms ranging from open dies to shafts, plates, sheets and contour rings. Regardless of the shape of Hastelloy, it offers the benefits like high-temperature force in the environment and vacuum, which are chemically static. Hastelloy metal has grown as the most preferred option for offering more resistance to corrosion than any other metal like the one Ni-Cr-Mo. Parts made from Hastelloy are being used for demanding applications while its sizing is decisive. Electropolishing is used frequently as sizing operation for the simple reason that it removes surface material in consistent amount even from the complex parts. This facilitates sizing of parts without any requisite of warping the shape and altering the proportion.

The making of Hastelloy is a complex process that involves the mixing of many elements like tungsten, carbon, titanium, aluminum, manganese, copper, cobalt, chromium etc into the basic ingredient of the transition metal that is essentially a nickel based substance. Hastelloy parts have the basic properties of having the ability to withstand not only high temperatures but also a high stress environment in a moderate or maybe even a highly corrosive environment.
